Choosing the right mezzanine floor system
Choosing the right mezzanine floor system depends on several factors, including the available clearance, required spans, load capacity and building layout. The way the mezzanine floor beams connect to the primary supporting structure also influences the most suitable configuration.
Hadley UltraMEZZ™ is available in various system configurations, each designed to meet different structural and installation requirements, including:
∙Inset System: designed to maximise available headroom beneath the floor.
∙Top Cleat System: provides opportunities for efficient double-span arrangements.

How does the HadleyUltraMEZZ™ mezzanine floor system work?
The Hadley UltraMEZZ™ system uses lightweight mezzanine floor beams made from cold-formed steel. Each beam has a specially designed C-shaped profile and is manufactured from high-strength, pre-galvanised structural steel with a yield strength of 450 MPa.
The beams are pre-punched, cut to the exact length required and individually marked to match the project specifications. This helps ensure that the right beams are used in the right places during installation. The mezzanine floor beams are connected to the main supporting structure using specially designed cleats. The type of cleat depends on the chosen system. Inset cleats also allow beams of different depths to be fitted on either side of the same main supporting beam. This makes it easier to adapt the mezzanine floor steel beams to the available space and the structural requirements of each project.
First launched in 1995, the Hadley UltraMEZZ™ mezzanine floor beam design has since been refined to enhance its performance and deliver a lighter, stronger solution, with simple installation.

Why choose UltraMEZZ™
The Hadley UltraMEZZ™ system combines an engineered beam profile with compliance and relevant technical standards. The UltraMEZZ™ profiles carry UKCA and CE markings and are designed in accordance with the applicable standards for cold-formed steel construction.
Key features include:
∙ Designed to comply with the latest Eurocode 3 and BS 5950-5 requirements.
∙ UltraMEZZ™ profiles carry UKCA and CE markings.

What is a mezzanine floor?
A mezzanine floor is an additional intermediate floor installed within an existing building to create more usable floor space. Supported by a structural framework, it makes better use of the available building height without extending the building’s footprint.
Where are mezzanine floors used?
Mezzanine floors are used in a variety of buildings where additional space is required. Common applications include warehouses and distribution centres that need extra storage capacity, industrial facilities requiring additional production or work areas, and commercial buildings that need more office or display space.
What is the Hadley UltraMEZZ™ system?
Hadley UltraMEZZ™ is a mezzanine floor system that uses lightweight, cold-rolled steel beams to create a strong and efficient floor structure. The system is available in three configurations: Inset, Top Cleat and Flange Fixed. Each configuration is designed to meet different structural and installation requirements.
Why choose cold-rolled steel mezzanine floor systems?
Cold forming is a manufacturing process in which steel is shaped into a specific profile using rollers, without the need for hot forming. This process produces accurately formed steel sections designed to deliver the required strength with efficient material use.
For mezzanine floor systems, cold-rolled steel offers several advantages. The beams are relatively lightweight, making them easier to handle, transport and install, while providing the strength required for an effective floor structure. How much weight can a mezzanine floor support?
The load capacity of a mezzanine floor is typically expressed in kilograms per square metre (kg/m²). The maximum load depends on several factors, including the structural design, span, selected floor beams and supporting structure.
Load requirements vary depending on the intended application. A mezzanine floor designed for lightweight storage, for example, will have different requirements from one used to store heavy pallets or support machinery. The distribution of the load is also important, as a uniformly distributed load places different demands on the structure than a heavy machine concentrated in one area.
